While discussing the possibility of a Christian record label with its roots firmly planted in the Kansas City area, the friends built a stronger bond with one another as God allowed their minds to be on one accord. But as with anything that is in Gods will, fleshly doubt eventually ensued. This caused Michael to question the endeavor and whether or not it should be pursued due to he, himself not being a Christian artist or being familiar with the Christian record business.
While pondering on the eventual record company, Michael continued to aid his close friend Andre Roberson (Dre Sr.) with his first album release, Living Sacrifice: The Soundtrack 4 Christian Livin. After seeing the impact this album had on the lives of young people, he decided to pursue what Christ had already set in motion and ventured out to create Kingdom City Records.
Since Kansas City was ripe for harvest and bursting with talented people whom desired an intimate relationship with Christ, Michael enlisted the help of Joseph "1-Lyfe" Chavez, Wendell "Deacon" Cole, and Andre "Dre Sr." Roberson to firmly plant Kingdom City Records as a legitimate Christian label in the Kansas City area. With the sole desire of seeing lives changed and under one call, "MISSIONARY MINDED MUZIKC (M3)", Kingdom City Records and those involved continue to pursue holiness while exhorting both the believer and nonbeliever to the same belief, that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.
Michael C. Watson Jr. was born December 24, 1980 to Michael & Therssa Watson in Kansas City, Missouri. Being the youngest of 3 siblings he always had a desire to standout from his older brothers and sister. After the divorce of his parents, Michael's mother began the daunted task of raising two African-American males as a single parent. As a deterrent to the negative inner-city activities prevalent in his community, Michael's mother sought to expose him to different alternatives. At the age of four, Michael was first introduced to the game of baseball in which he immediately took an interest. The teamwork, competitive nature, and love for the sport, only fueled his desire to try others. Soon thereafter he began playing football and basketball. Understanding the impact that sports had on Michael, his mother kept him involved as much as possible. Often sacrificing her time and money to support her youngest son. All the while using sports as leverage for Michael to maintain good grades in school.
While attending school in the Kansas City Missouri School District, Michael learned to appreciate different genre's of music from all walks of life. Being raised in a southern baptist church setting, Michael fell in love with Gospel music and the message it encompassed. Encouraged to explore his own musical talents, he began playing the baritone, euphonium, and cello in school while also singing in the church choir. Though Michael excelled on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the school band, he was still void of a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Led to the church by his mother and grandmother, Michael still chose to pursue the world through his athletic ability on the court. Thus turning away from what he knew to be right, in pursuit of worldly fame and treasures.
In college on a full athletic scholarship, Michael was fortunate enough to meet his current mentor and friend, Pastor John L. Brooks of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Pastor Brooks befriended Michael and challenged him to pursue a more intimate relationship with Christ. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and teaching of Pastor Brooks, Michael truly accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in September of 2003. God is faithful and blessed Michael to excell at the game of basketball. Thus affording him the opportunity to play NCAA Div. 1 basketball, earn a B.A. from UMKC, and go on to play Professionally in the NBA, Europe and Puerto Rico.
In September of 2006 while in Istanbul, Turkey, Michael encountered God like never before and faced the biggest obstacle in his life. He was led to walk away from his contract and to further develop in his walk with the Lord. Christ had something else in store for his life. While fellowshipping at a local Christian open-mic event, Michael met the people who would later make up Kingdom City Records. Led by the Holy Spirit, his desire to see lives changed for the cause of Christ, and his love for music, he decided to be a steward with what God had given him. So In the summer of 2007, Michael formed Kingdom City Records behind the motto of Missionary Minded MuziKC to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
